Programs

Four training tracks.

Each program follows the same documented protocol, adjusted for the handler's needs and the dog's role.

Service Dog Training

Mobility assistance, medical alert, psychiatric support, and autism assistance - trained to ADI task and public access standards.

Therapy Dog Training

Temperament and handling work for dogs visiting hospitals, schools, and care facilities, including certification prep.

Owner-Trained Dog Onboarding

Already have a dog at home? We evaluate and onboard owner-trained dogs into the program, picking up wherever their training currently stands.

Private Obedience

One-on-one manners and behavior correction for family pets - leash skills, recall, and impulse control.

Trained to ADI Standards

Dontsis Obedience trains and places dogs according to the standards set by Assistance Dogs International (ADI), the coalition that governs training and placement practices for the assistance dog industry worldwide.

What the standard covers

What we train and test.

  • 1
    Documented training protocol

Every dog is trained against a written curriculum, not ad hoc sessions.

  • 2
    Public access testing

Dogs are tested in real public environments before placement, matching ADI's minimum standards.

  • 3
    Ethical placement practices

Matching is based on the handler's disability-related needs, not availability or upsell.

  • 4
    Ongoing accountability

Placements follow ADI's code of ethics for training and client support.

Protocol

How training works.

A structured progression from evaluation and foundation work through task training, public access, and follow-up.

StageNameWhat happens
01 Evaluation Assessment of the handler's needs and, if applicable, the dog's temperament and suitability for service work.
02 Foundation Training Obedience, focus, and impulse control - the base every task and public access skill is built on.
03 Task Training Work trained specific to the handler's disability: retrieval, alerting, bracing, interruption, and more.
04 Public Access Testing Formal testing against ADI public access standards before placement.
05 Ongoing Support Follow-up sessions and refreshers for the working life of the team.
